THE BIG HEAD HOUSE

Frances Cowhig, in her final year of graduate study at the University of Texas Michener Center for Writers, has brought a group of performers to Austin, TX to create a piece of ensemble theatre using larval masks. In her proposal she wrote:

“The first time I saw a larval character onstage, I stopped breathing. Larval masks have a capacity to hold and move emotion through space in a way I haven’t experienced in naturalistic acting….Writing a script for larval mask is an impossible proposal until the mask has been physically embodied: only then can you know what the mask will and won’t do.”
